Online (vormals Maritim Hotel Darmstadt)

15.1.2021

Link to the online zoom event

Start: 20:00

The Frankfurt musicians Charlotte Simon and Toben Piel, celebrated as the band Les Trucs, have taken up the idea of a musique d'ameublement (music as a piece of furniture) and want to take it seriously materially - ergo carpentered in wood. For this purpose, they create a home bar in their cellar with illustrious guests and surprising moments, in which the home bar audience can participate via video and audio link. An ethereal game with synthesizers and attentions begins.

Signature drink of the evening: The last drink.
1 part Havana Club, 3 parts lime juice, ice, lemon, topped up with apple juice, stirred and drunk.

With: Charlotte Simon, Frankfurt (composition, performance), Toben Piel, Frankfurt (composition, performance), Florian Mania & Daniel Degeest (Performance)

The evenings are free of charge and take place online. Each evening will be accompanied by a signature drink that the artists will drink and mix for the audience.

Music for Hotel Bars Machine

Oliver Augst

Online (vormals Radisson Blu Schwarzer Bock Wiesbaden)

Link to ongoing online stream on youtube

Start: 19:00

Hotel bar music is music work, maybe even assembly line music work. The shifts divide into songs, the applause according to the ability to maintain attention in the band. Or is it enough to simply bring the beginning and end of a song well? Oliver Augst transfers the on and off games of a live musical situation to the digital and asked his musicians to record samples for him. Pedro González Fernández then programmed a digital machine that makes it possible to create an endless musical stream that guests can now bring home to their house bar situation. Oliver Augst will personally introduce the endless work and serve the matching drink.

Signature drink of the evening: James Bond Martini.
6cl gin, 2cl vodka, 1cl dry vermouth, ice cubes. Put all the ingredients in a mixing glass with plenty of ice cubes and shake until the outside of the glass is misted up. Then pour the mix into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an olive. It looks even better if you add a thin slice of lemon to the glass.

With: Marcel Daemgen, Offenbach (piano), JD Zazie, Berlin (Turntables, CDj), Gregor Praml, Frankfurt (bass), Pedro González Fernández, Hamburg (Programmierung), Oliver Augst, Paris/Ludwigshafen (composition, voice)

The evenings are free of charge and take place online. Each evening will be accompanied by a signature drink that the artists will drink and mix for the audience.

Online aus der Marmion Bar im Lindley Hotel Frankfurt

28.2.2021

Link to the online zoom event

Start: 20:30

Annesley Black and Friederike Thielmann juxtapose the deserted Marmion Bar, perched on the fifth floor of the chic Lindley Hotel, with a faraway, equally deserted world – that of bluegrass music from the southern states of the USA. The musicians are on location and listen to the spirits of the bar. With the skyline of the Rolling Hills in their eyes, the resonance of fiddle and mandolin in their ears and whisky in their throats, the tall tales of famous lady-killers slowly disintegrate at the empty bar. And the "Howling" breaks on the fully glazed outer walls of the Marmion Bar.

Signature drink of the evening: Rattlesnake Smash
A whiskey smash with Wild Turkey 101 bourbon, mint, lemon, lemon peel, absinthe, cinnamon.

With Annesley Black, Frankfurt (composition, banjo, voice), Paul Cannon, Frankfurt (double bass, voice), Robin Hoffmann, Frankfurt (guitar, voice), Joon Laukamp, Köln (fiddle, mandoline, voice), Friederike Thielmann, Frankfurt (direction), Malwin Hillier (bar chef)

Leo Hofmann

SO/ Berlin Das Stue Berlin

15.1.2019

The hotel bar of the Stue is arranged like a living room. The composer and performer Leo Hofmann creates music for the countless loudspeakers, which are perfectly designed for the room acoustics, to caress the evening. Leo Hofmann combines this soundscape with performative elements of solo entertainment.

Laure M. Hiendl

Waldorf Astoria

18.12.2018

Stylish interior of the 20s, a digital quarter piano and many good drinks captivate in the Lang Bar of the Waldorf Astoria. The glass semi-circle of the bar opens the view towards the Memorial Church. Already in "still|arriving" Laure M. Hiendl allowed pianists* to enter into a contrapuntal dialogue with themselves through layered live-recording. The composer* and performer*, who works on an interdisciplinary basis, applies this principle to a piano trio. Together with the Zafraan Ensemble they created a 4-1/2 hour long performance for piano, violin, cello and electronics, during which the music slowed down, froze and phase shifted waltzes from the beginning of the 20th century.

Neo Hülcker

The Ritz-Carlton Berlin

6.11.2018

The Ritz-Carlton's The Curtain Club is where the city's exclusive guests meet - be it Udo Lindenberg or the Turkish Foreign Minister. The composer-performer Neo Hülcker, who recently attracted attention with his "Concert for voice in a voice change", creates his own musical social life for The Curtain Club with the vocal ensemble Phoenix16.

Counter Promenade

Anna Jandt

Bristol Hotel Berlin

25.9.2018

The artist and musician Anna Jandt has been working with the genre of solo entertainment for several years. As part of the artists' collective FORT, she has also staged hotels as performances and installations in the past. In the Bristol Bar, which is already known for its live music, she will perform with the musicians Ole Wulfers and Clemens Hund-Göschel, including guitar and deeply transposed voice.

Mark Barden

Westin Grand Hotel Berlin

19.6.2018

The American composer Mark Barden dedicates his work to the soundscapes of social spaces. Already in "Dark Room" he reflected the amorous interactions from several Berlin clubs. He continues this thought in his work for the series and, together with the soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop, plays in the hotel bar of the Westin Grand: the concierge recommends a sight of the city to guests, a charming person walks down the marble show stairs to the piano, string sounds interweave with the seven-story atrium.

about
You have to be willing to take a back seat, not feel important, weave a carpet of sound for people at the laptop or behind a newspaper and maybe just one or two who are really listening.
Simon Schott, Bar pianist

Music for Hotel Bars is a music performance series that travels through cities, hotels and festivals. Its aim is to perform music in the hotel bar. A composer or artistic team is commissioned to create a new background music for a hotel bar that appeals to them - musical, performative, immersive.

The start was set in June 2018 in Berlin with a series of 6 evenings, which extended over half a year and invited every month to another hotel bar. The Berlin series was produced by bastille musique.

This was followed by another evening in the southern Black Forest as part of the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2019.

At the beginning of 2021, three more evenings will take place in the Rhine-Main region with the cities of Darmstadt, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt in the online format "Music for Hotel Bars @Home Edition".

MUSIC FOR HOTEL BARS @HOME EDITION

In times of pandemic, the only bar that remains open is the home bar. And who has their own band there? From 15 January to 28 February 2021, the Music for Hotel Bars series will commission composers and musicians Charlotte Simon & Toben Piel (Les Trucs), Oliver Augst and Annesley Black & Friederike Thielmann to create musical situations for the countless home bars in their guests' living rooms and living spaces. Guests can connect via Youtube or Zoom and experience new formats and places of coming together - be it a digital bar music machine, the world of a cosy cellar bar or the actually closed Marmion Bar in the Lindley Hotel. The audience is invited to experience three evenings online with self-mixed drinks, conversations and of course new music.

The evenings are free of charge and take place online. Links to the events can be found at at the events on this page. Each evening will be accompanied by a signature drink, which the artists will drink and mix for the audience.
